Go Green At Christmas

Go Green At Christmas

Christmas is quickly approaching, so you’re probably starting to think about your festive lights, tree, shopping and the rest.

While there’s no way to guarantee a white Christmas, we can guarantee a green Christmas – with just a few simple lifestyle changes on your end. Anyone can go green at Christmas and celebrate an eco-friendly holiday in absolute style. Being eco doesn’t mean that you have to sacrifice anything – it just means being  mindful of your actions & realizing how your small efforts can make a HUGE impact on our environment!

Decorations

If you’ve got a bit of time to spare, a great way to be more eco is to DIY! Handmade decorations are a lovely touch, plus you can use recycled and eco-friendly materials so that you’re not harming the environment or using artificial products. Consider collecting materials from outside, such as leaves, twigs and pine cones to create wreaths, table decorations, and ornaments. This is a brilliant way to incorporate nature into your home,  and it’s a fun activity for the family too!

Gift Wrap

An easy way to go green at Christmas is to save your gift wrap. Have you ever counted how many bags of gift wrap, gift boxes, ribbons and bows you throw out after Christmas is over? Why not save some of that to use the following year and for birthdays and other celebrations? This is a simple yet effective way to reduce how much garbage makes it to the landfill, plus you’ll save money as you won’t have to keep buying gift wrap accessories!

Christmas Lights

2127348012_77b010ca74_oIf you’re buying new Christmas lights this year, opt for energy-saving and LED lights instead. These use much less electricity, thus minimizing your energy bill, and they cut the fire hazard risk too. Don’t forget to switch your Christmas lights off at night too, as although they look pretty, it’s a real waste of energy. You can even get lights that are solar powered so they don’t use up any energy at all.

Green Gifts

Do you ever feel that you sometimes buy gifts for the sake of it? If you don’t know what to buy someone this Christmas, instead of buying them a gift that you don’t know if they’ll like, why not do an activity together instead? Alternatively, shop for green gifts that are locally made and aren’t transported from across the world to cut your carbon footprint.

How do you like to go green at Christmas? We’d love to know!
