5 Simple Ways to Keep Your Fridge Smelling Fresh

Do you hate the way your fridge smells when you open the door? Do you find your fridge holds unpleasant odours but you don’t know how to get rid of it? Try one of our following methods to help keep your fridge smelling fresh.

Cleaning

Tupperware

For those who love leftovers, Tupperware is a godsend for storing food and keeping your fridge smelling fresh! By putting your leftovers in an air-tight Tupperware container you can avoid pungent odours from developing in your fridge. Tupperware is also great for storing half-used ingredients such as onions and garlic, as this can often leave a strong smelling odour.

Toothpaste

It may sound strange, but toothpaste can be used to keep your fridge smelling fresh. I have a friend who puts toothpaste on a sponge or rag, and wipes down her entire fridge using toothpaste! If you give it a go, make sure you use a clean, wet rag and wipe everything a second time to avoid a white crusty buildup. Toothpaste will leave your fridge smelling minty fresh, and you can even choose your refrigerator’s scent based on your toothpaste flavour! PCC Cleaning recommends a cinnamon toothpaste around the holidays to spice up your fridge and kitchen!

Mark Food

Every time you put something half-eaten back in the fridge, write down the date that you opened it. It’s better not to store most foods longer than a week and a half after opening, as bacteria can begin to develop along with odours. The longer you keep open food, the more likely that odours will leak out and hang in your fridge.

Dried Orange Peels

Another simple way to keep your fridge smelling fresh is by putting dried orange peels on the shelves and drawers. This can be unsightly, but it’s well worth it for the lovely citrus aroma it will produce. One negative (or positive for some) is that if you have an open water pitcher such as a Brita pitcher, the peels can give the water an orange scent.

There are many different ways you can keep your fridge smelling fresh, and many of these simply methods take little to no time at all! Do you have any great tips that we haven’t listed?
