One question we often get asked is, “How often should you clean your bathroom?”
The bathroom is the one area of the home that receives a high amount of traffic every day, so it can easily get dirty and germs can quickly accumulate. Although it might look clean, that doesn’t necessarily mean it is, and there are a few rules we recommend following when it comes to how frequently you should clean your bathroom.
Clean towels every 2-3 days
If you’re only cleaning your towels once a week, it’s time to invest in a second set or wash them more frequently. Towels should only really be used 3/4 times as bacteria can easily grow. Make sure you hang your towels in-between use to allow maximum air flow so they dry properly, and wash towels on a warm or hot wash to eliminate any germs. Hand towels should be washed every couple of days as they’re used the most.
Disinfect toilet twice a week
Depending on how much your toilet gets used, we recommend giving it a wipe down at least twice a week. Wipe around the rim, seat, and toilet flush with some disinfecting wipes, and make sure to clean the bowl and around the base at least once a week.
Clean bathmat once a week
Bathmats can get riddled with germs more easily than you think, and they’re possibly the germiest area of your bathroom. Clean your bathmat on a hot wash once a week to prevent any nasty germs from setting up a base in your bathroom!
Tackle shower, bathtub, and floors weekly
Get into the habit of wiping down the shower, bathtub, and floors on a weekly basis. Shampoo and grime can easily accumulate on the walls and in the shower/bathtub, and your floor can get dirty quickly from grubby feet and germs from your toilet (yuk).
Keep your bathroom ventilated
Ventilation is key to reduce the growth of mould or mildew in your bathroom and keep moisture levels to a minimum. Keep your bathroom ventilated by opening the window or investing in a good bathroom fan that will increase airflow.
The bathroom is usually the place in the house that people least enjoy cleaning, but it’s got to be done if you want a pleasant (and odourless) environment!
